ACSR Conductor

Overview

ACSR (Aluminum Conductor Steel Reinforced) conductors are widely used in power transmission and distribution systems. Here are some of their main uses:

  1. Overhead Power Transmission Lines: ACSR conductors are primarily used for high-voltage and long-distance power transmission due to their ability to carry large amounts of electrical current while maintaining flexibility and strength.

  2. Electricity Distribution: These conductors are also used in electrical distribution systems, where they are typically found in urban, suburban, and rural areas.

  3. Rural and Remote Areas: Because ACSR conductors are durable and cost-effective, they are commonly used in areas where underground cables might be less practical.

  4. Railway Electrification: ACSR conductors are used for supplying power to electric trains in railway networks.

  5. Telecommunication Lines: In some cases, ACSR conductors are used in telecommunication infrastructure, although this is less common than their use in power transmission.

  6. Underground & Underground Power Cables: In some cases, ACSR is used for underground power cable systems where both strength and conductivity are needed.

Its construction, with aluminum providing excellent conductivity and steel reinforcing the conductor for strength, makes it suitable for these various applications.

Features

  • - Effectively resists aeolin vibrations and galloping caused by wind and ice.
  • - The twisted design ensures minimal torsional stiffness.
  • - Allows for higher line tensions, reducing overall line costs by enabling lower sag and/ or extended span lengths.
  • - High tensile strength for long-span installations
  • - Economical and durable for overhead lines
  • - Suitable for high-voltage transmission and distribution
  • - Good corrosion resistance (with galvanized steel core)
  • - Steel core provides extra mechanical strength
